Evenson breathes in deeply – KALTBLUT Magazine

It’s been a while since we’ve had Evenson gracing us with a new single. This last August he released “Devil Inside”, an amazing song with equally impressive visuals directed by Jacob Rodier. The duo showed huge chemistry working together, and it’s a great pleasure to see them team up again for “LUNGS”, a live-performance-style music video featuring Evenson and Modslee.

Evenson’s charming brand of indie-electro-pop is on point as usual, and though not quite as groovy as his viral smashing hit song “How Can I Sleep” this release is every bit as good in every regard. “Lungs” is likewise a deeply emotive confessional dressed up with lite-funky beats that have made him synonymous with sincere bittersweetness that you can both reflect on and maybe even dance to.

“Lungs” is perhaps Evenson’s most dream-like song so far. It banks on a nostalgic (but not retro) keyboard and a soft, ethereal vocal performance helped by Modslee’s punctual backings. Of the song,  Evenson says “Lungs is a song I wrote a month after my grandmother passed away. For the first time in my life, it felt like the walls were caving in and I had my first-ever panic attack. I wanted to make a song that expressed that feeling of claustrophobia and hyper-anxiety yet offered a hopeful silver lining because in the end I always want to survive.”

Shot in a very cool single take, the video itself is quite simple and natural, It is virtually just Evenson and Modslee performing inside a nice house, with some minor animated elements (Kristen-Innes Stambolic) overlaid at certain points during the song, at times mirroring certain keywords that Even is singing at that particular moment. The fact that the video is just one uninterrupted take allows a fantastic look into Evenson’s inherent charisma and stage presence, capturing his energy to perfection. The Setting chosen for this performance is perfect for the song’s themes. The privacy and warmth of a home offer the perfect safe space for a candid outpouring of emotions without any of the melodrama.

Evenson is currently working with VERO Music building though the follow-up single “If I Ever Feel Better” through to the release of the “Sadly, I Still Love You” EP, “If I Ever Feel Better” through to the release of the “Sadly, I Still Love You” EP.
