Mongolia Photograph Journey – July 2022

This vacation had originally been prepared for July 2020, then COVID took place. I am eternally grateful that people hung on to their reservations for two many years and we had been ready to have an astounding journey!

Our aim was cultural, although we did have a extremely handful of wildlife sightings which include a critically endangered saiga antelope that galloped previous us in a flash.

We were in a position to continue to be with and photograph the legendary Kazakh eagle hunters and even crashed a wedding day. Near Khovd we went to a traditional festival referred to as a nadaam, with dusty, spirited horse races, and beefy wrestlers who made limited perform of soldiers who were being attending. Lastly, as portion of the group break up off to photograph the endangered takhi (Przewalski’s horse) I was capable to meet with shamans. In the Soviet period, Shamanism (and Buddhism) were repressed, but the ancient cultural traditions are generating a resurgence.

The vast steppe and arid mountains of Mongolia are spectacular. It is awe-inspiring to witness a rainstorm sweeping throughout the land and passing clouds dapple the hillsides. It is truly 1 of the final places where a person can come to feel so smaller yet invigorated by nature.
