Jack & Venus spans throughout two galleries and will open concurrently at Venus About Manhattan’s 55 Good Jones Road room. In this exhibition, Kamijo will demonstrate a new series of his signature poodle paintings. These bold and dynamic figures have made even further into abstraction which will allow for the artist’s exploration of form, color, and technique to stand out.
In this system of get the job done, Kamijo is concentrated on 3 primary features: the poodle’s encounter, the landscape, and the over-all composition of these elements. Though the poodle is the regular topic of the paintings, the artist has manufactured it distinct that it is not the poodle by itself that he is concerned with but relatively the surprising kinds that it can just take on. These new works are cropped into a form of portraiture- the viewer sees lips, tooth, and eyes gazing back at them serenely, joyfully, or fiercely. As the face is emphasised, the viewer is capable to just take in the styles, hues, and strains, all coming jointly to represent the topic. Kamijo’s dynamic abstractions are more complemented by the tender, rounded foliage of the landscapes they are settled in, as nicely as the tiny circles in the upper still left or appropriate corner, resembling the solar or the moon based on their shade.
The artist’s expressive strategy is obvious throughout this series. Obvious brushstrokes and paint drips are balanced by bold traces and shapes. The repetition of imagery merged with the unique evolution of style and procedure end result in paintings that are at the moment acquainted and completely new.
